The 6th grade students have been working on our Asia unit in Social Studies, focusing on the Han Dynasty, Zhou Dynasty, Great Wall of China, geography of early China, trade routes, farming, culture, inventions, art and literature and much more. The students ended the unit with an Asian inspired banquet, trying ( some for the first time) Tofu, vegetable fried rice, chicken egg rolls, chicken and white rice, ramen noodle soup, and teaching each other how to use chop sticks🥢👍. Students had a great time and learned a lot.

Hard to believe it is already March! That means it is time for National School Breakfast Week. The theme this year is " The Quest for School Breakfast." This campaign aims to highlight how a nutritious breakfast boosts student energy, focus, and academic performance. Be sure to encourage your students to come by the cafeteria for a great breakfast every day this week!

Here is your Week 25 menu. I see a lot of yummy goodness on there!!!

Sr. High Softball (9-12 grade), Baseball (9-12 grade), and Track (10-12 grade) will be taking sports pictures on Tuesday, February 24. The form below shows package prices. Physical copies of the form are also available in the High School Office.
February is flying by! Let's see if we can make it great with a few new entrees!

Donuts with Dad part 3

Donuts with Dad, part two!

Thank you to all the dads and other family members who came to spend a part of their morning with us! We had an amazing turn out! More pictures to come!

I want to brag on Ashlee Dollar. She has worked really hard and improved her grades and IXL scores. If the 9 weeks were up today, she would be on the A/B honor roll, only 1 class away from All A's!!! Great job Ashlee! I am so proud of you. Ashlee got to pick a book from our book machine.

It was great getting back on track with ACES today! Our kiddos had a big day filled with some Valentine's Day decorations, a bit of a workout, and lots of fun times outside on this B-E-A-Utiful day!

Don't forget Parent-Teacher conferences on Monday and Donuts with Dad on Thursday!!

Due to parent teacher conferences this evening, ACES students can be picked up at the elementary school. Conferences are held from 4 pm to 7 pm. Come by and visit with your child’s teacher. ACES students will be in Room 10.

VBC Farm Bureau Women’s Committee member, Cindy Wilson presenting an awesome agricultural book to Elementary Secretary Susan Howard for K-2 students at Shirley Elementary.
Thank you Mrs. Wilson and the VBC Farm Bureau for the donation!
Thank you Mrs. Wilson and the VBC Farm Bureau for the donation!

This week is National School Counselors' Appreciation Week. We are thankful to have Mrs. Penny Howard as our district counselor.

We would like to welcome all dads and father figures to join us next Thursday, February 12, for our annual Donuts with Dad breakfast. We will begin serving at 7:10 in the Shirley Cafeteria. All visitor trays are $3.00, and exact change is requested. Additional money can be added to your students' accounts. We look forward to seeing you!

Here we go!!! We have some yummy goodness on the menu! This week, Mrs. Angie will poll the students for favorite meals and wish meals. Everyone loves new menu items, so why not let the students help decide what they may be...again. We do this at least once every school year. We love to see what they come up with. Although some are a little outrageous for a school menu, the ideas are always great!

Under advisement of admin, we will not have the ACES program this week. Hopefully, things will get back to normal so we can start again next Monday.

With all the winter weather coming in, we will not be having our ACES program on Monday. Everyone stay safe and warm!

As we get ready for the potential for winter weather, I wanted to push out the 25-26 Snow Routes once again. At this time, we are anticipating being able to complete our school day tomorrow but will be monitoring the weather throughout the day. Should the need arise to have an early dismissal, we will post that out on Facebook, Dojo, as well as send notifications through our system. There was a stop added to Mr. Lee's route, which is the end of Lute Mtn. Rd. Please note that your child's regular route driver may or may not be their snow route driver so please read each driver's schedule to see what bus your child(ren) will need to ride.

I wanted to send a huge shout out to the students in Mrs. McKenzie's room that accumulated enough points for a certificate in Accelerated Reader (AR). Especially Carrie Williams and Aliza Linn who accumulated enough AR points to get to choose their own books from the Book machine. Great job students and Mrs. McKenzie!
