Recently Katie Mendieta, a Sophmore at Shirley High School, was accepted to play the bass clarinet in the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra's Youth Ensemble. The program is made up of three different ensembles: the Prelude Orchestra, the Academy Orchestra, and the Youth Orchestra. Katie is currently in the Academy Orchestra and had her first concert on Sunday evening, November 17th at Conway High School Auditorium. "I’m very honored to be playing with some of the best musicians in the state of Arkansas. This is something I thought would be never be achievable but here I am. I hope to continue down this path of music. Thank you to Ms. Peyton (Loeschner) for helping me achieve this goal", writes Mendieta. We wish Katie the best of luck as in January, she will be trying out for the Youth Orchestra. Katie is the daughter of Yaro and Christina Mendieta.
